The College of Engineering and Technology, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in partnership with the Sail Innovation Lab, an initiative of Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, the senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, organized a 2-day Tech-Week boot camp for students of the college between the 28th and 29th of October, 2024 at the 500-Seater auditorium, Ikorodu campus.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Olumuyiwa Odusanya in his address, remarked that the programme which was primarily targeted at Engineering students was necessary to expose them to the world of technology beyond academics and also help them to be work ready, bringing them in tune with the opportunities of the technological world and making them to be future innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs.
Senator Tokunbo Abiru in his speech explained that “the world was experiencing the 4th industrial revolution defined by the fusion of digital, physical, and biological systems. Artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, block chain, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and virtual reality are no longer just theoretical ideas; they are transforming entire industries, reshaping economies, and altering the way we live and work.”
Speaking further, he said: “More than half of the jobs we see today will likely disappear or be significantly altered within the next 10 to 20 years, a change driven by technology as industries like finance, manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and education were already undergoing dramatic shifts as a result of which traditional ways of working are being replaced by digital processes, automation, and AI-powered.”
“Through this Lab, we aim to provide a world-class innovation space that will allow you to learn, create, and collaborate on projects that have real-world impact. Our focus is on the technologies that are shaping the future AI, block chain, data science, software development, digital marketing, games development, and more,” he said.
